Catch of the Day
About the Show
Ireland, 1966. A skipper sails into Dingle Bay with a very unusual catch: a rare and valuable sturgeon. What follows is a ridiculous series of events involving Eamon De Valera, Queen Elizabeth, and a surprising number of nuns. Built from interviews with the people who remember, Catch of the Day is a raucous, music-filled pub play created by Red Fox Theatre that tackles the tense history of Anglo-Irish relations with a unique mash-up of live traditional Irish music, comedy, and theater.
Shortlisted for Best Musical at Edinburgh Fringe, the show has earned five-star reviews and sold-out runs across the UK, Ireland, and London's Soho Theatre since 2018. The Irish Post called it "side-splittingly funny," and Within Her Words praised it as "utterly joyous" and "a truly excellent piece of gig theatre." Presented at 59E59 Theaters as part of the Brits Off Broadway festival, this is a show designed for audiences who might not ordinarily visit the theater.
