About the Show

Wallace Shawn returns to the stage to perform his Obie Award-winning solo masterwork. A nameless narrator, confined to a squalid hotel room inside a poor nation, lies feverish as political repression takes place just outside his window. While he recovers, he starts to question his own privilege and, in particular, his complicity, as he grapples with the stark realities of inequality and human suffering. First performed in friends' living rooms before premiering at The Public Theater in 1990, The Fever has since been staged at London's Royal Court, the Avignon Festival, and theaters worldwide, and has been performed by Cate Blanchett, Lili Taylor, and Tobias Menzies, among others.

This production marks a rare theatrical convergence: Shawn both performs his most enduring solo work and simultaneously unveils his latest ensemble play, What We Did Before Our Moth Days, directed by longtime collaborator Andre Gregory. Both works are presented in repertory at the Greenwich House Theater, produced by Scott Rudin and Barry Diller. The Fever performs Sunday and Monday evenings. In repertory with What We Did Before Our Moth Days.
